We’re so thankful to have received the “good news” from the doctors yesterday regarding his diagnosis. A dermatologist came by to examine Makoa today and noted his dry-skin and prescribed some Aquafor lotion to put on him. We are very familiar with this because we use it for Nainoa’s eczema all the time. The dermatologist also reassured us the undescended testes were common with Ichthyosis and usually, infants with this syndrome can’t handle the stress of child birth. Once again, we praise God for guiding us to make the choice for c-section.
There are still the daily battles that we are fighting with Makoa’s health. He is in his Isolette Incubator, which is very comfortable for him, but is always troublesome sight for his parents. Also, our biggest concern right now is his IV placement. As you know, he has the blisters on his toes so they can’t use that area for IV’s any longer. He had it today on his other foot and it unfortunately started to leak. Since he’s had it on both hands already they are worried about the veins collapsing. If they are unable to find a suitable vein, they will have to place the IV in his forehead.
They assured Tiffany it’s actually the best place to put the IV, but they generally don’t do it because the parents kind of “freak-out”. No kidding! I’m not going to be a happy camper if that happens. I’m actually really torn because the first test for the urinary tract infection came back as a possible contaminant, and the blister situation might not be an infection at all. It could be related to the skin condition or just from the tape rubbing his foot. I’d hate for us (and him) to be going through all of this if it’s not necessary.
We are putting our faith in God that He will protect Makoa and keep him safe. We continue to ask for your prayers for our little man. To end on a positive note, I wanted to share with you some good news, Makoa had two bottle feedings of 45 and 40 cc’s and is weighing in at 5lbs 9oz. Hopefully on his way to strength and good health!

Posted at 06:40h, 24 JanuaryWe went throught the same issues with the IV placement. We found out after the completely inept nurse kept stabbing Corinna with the needle that there was a Ped’s blood specialist upstairs that had 24 years of experience. Miss Lanay had a very professional system, it went like this, “Dear Lord, please Jesus, Please Jesus, Dear Lord” and boom she found it. No kidding. All you can do is ask if there is a Ped’s Infant Blood specialist that can insert the IV. There usually is. Meanwhile, we’ll say Miss Lanay’s prayer!
