Happy Birthday Makoa, you are officially one month old today!  I’m kind of bummed that I don’t get to see him again today.  While I am feeling much better, I’m still a bit congested so were playing it safe.  Tiffany is home with me and Grammy is handling the evening feeds tonight.  Tiff needs to rest up for the big push tomorrow and Saturday.  I explain in a minute, but first, some good news.

Makoa has reached a new weight class, 6 lbs 2 oz.  Not only is it great for us psychologically to push past the 6 lb mark, but also wonderful that he is gaining weight eating on his own.  Makoa has finished each of the bottles that Tiffany has given him over the last four days, which brings me to why she needs to rest up.  It’s go time for the Breeden’s starting tomorrow, Tiffany is pulling the 24 hour shift to make sure he eats his 40 cc’s at each of his eight feedings so we can take him home.  She will sleep in the NICU room they have for parents and get up every three hours to feed him his bottle.  You can tell by Tiffany’s attitude when I came home tonight that she means business.

Everyone knows how competitive we are, and I know she’s going to get it done.  We’re calling it “game day” tomorrow as it’s time for Mommy and Makoa to step-up because they both want to be at home.  The doctors have been impressed with his strength, feeding, and muscle-tone improvement.  They are finishing up a couple of the tests they must complete before he can be released, such as making sure he can hang in the car-seat.  They also performed a test to make sure that the whole urinary tract is functioning properly after the infection.  The put some dye in his system through a catheter and tracked it up to his kidneys.  Apparently, everything was fine from the preliminary report.  As you can see, he was clearly exhausted after the whole ordeal.

We’ve decided to stick with the HMO as the pediatric endocrinologist doesn’t accept insurance, she’s simply a flat fee each visit.   We are confident that with all the referrals we’ve already been given that we won’t have any problems with the insurance, but we’ll soon find out I’m sure!  Regardless, we are looking forward to getting him home and beginning the next chapter of our journey.  Please continue to say your prayers that our big feeding push goes well and that both he and Tiffany can muster enough strength to come through with flying colors.  I’m already dreaming of watching the Superbowl at my own house cuddling with that little man on my chest!

In know it was a tough day, Big Man (no more of this little man stuff!) but you pulled through with flying colors. Tomorrow is the day to make mountains move and hearts sing. I know youʻll do your best. Weʻll be on the side lines cheering you and mom on… aloha ball, team Breeden!
