January 27th 2010

I saw a shooting star on my way to the hospital tonight. I think the Man upstairs is a better bet, but I’m not opposed to wishing on a shooting star. I can’t tell you my wish, otherwise it won’t come true, but I’m sure you have a pretty good idea of what it was.

I have been pretty subdued all day, I guess reflective would be a better word. I’ve been trying to absorb everything that’s happened in the last couple of days and I have to say it’s a bit overwhelming. As I’ve been thinking about everything, I wanted to make sure that everyone knows how appreciative Tiffany and I are of all the support we are receiving.

I’ve been hearing from people how sorry they are for what were going through.  I completely understand that sentiment, but for some reason I don’t feel that way.  Call it what you will, perhaps it’s the Grace of God, but I’ve never felt sorry for myself, Makoa, or the rest of our family.  If you have ever had the pleasure of holding Makoa and looking into his eyes, you know his spirit is strong and that no matter what battles he may face, he won’t want to be pitied.

Even though we might be discouraged by what the doctor’s have told us, I am still so hopeful for Makoa.  Just spending time with him tonight, I am amazed at the progress he has made.  He was awake the entire two hours Tiffany and I were with him in the NICU.  He guzzled down 50 cc’s in about 20 minutes which was a new time record for him, and he was about as active as you could be.

There is no doubt Makoa is extraordinary.  If I’m ever feeling down, or start wondering what the future holds, I just place our little man on my chest and all of a sudden the world is perfect and pure.  It is the most peaceful place you can ever know.

Lindsay you have a terrific outlook on life and I can learn so much from you. I thank you for keeping a positive spirit and I know that it will only make your family stronger. He’s an amazing kid and will bring so much joy to others. Can’t wait to hug and kiss him!

    Hi Lindsey,

I wanted to let you know that Kayden and I LOVE to go to the Long Beach Aquarium and this Saturday, if you and Tiffany want to spend more time at the hospital with Makoa, I would love to take Nainoa and Kaialani (Yikes, how’s my spelling?) to see the Fish and Sea Lions. Let me know. I would love to help in anyway I can!

One thing is for certain – you are an incredibly strong family!!!
It has been pretty amazing to watch Makoa’s growth over the past few weeks, and see how much he has had to endure is such a short time. He is such a strong little guy, and he will only continue to flourish with the love and support of your family and friends. We pray that Makoa continues to gain strength.
We love you all so much,
    Vickie and Tim

It’s not how big that mountain is that you face, it’s how big your God is! His job is moving mountains and as for me and my house we are asking Him to move this mountain out of Makoa’s life. You are amazing Lindsey, what God has done in your life is incredible and it’s just the beginning of what He has in store for your family. We continue to stand with you and Tiffany and believe God will walk you all thru this one day at a time.. We love you dearly, Bob and Mikie

Your wish is a no brainer Lindsey. Time to put on your big girl/boy boxers/panties and get ready for a wild ride. Ups and downs will be plentiful. Continue to lean on your Faith and each other. You guys can do this! If you thought you loved your kids and each other, wait til you find how much love is in you for a special needs kid. This little guy will be the greatest thing that ever happened to you…I PROMISE!

I just realized boxers and panties were out of order…or maybe they’re not, not really sure how you guys roll. Just kidding. Laughing is good too!
