January 24th 2010

Since I already gave a mini-update earlier today, I thought I would post a video I took tonight when I arrived at Torrance Memorial for Makoa’s evening feeding.

He’s doing great, continuing to get stronger.  Now that we have a firm diagnosis, we can focus on feeding him and having him gain weight.  We’re praying that the tests come back negative tomorrow for infection.  The antibiotics are a lot for his little body to handle and we want to make sure his veins are holding up for the IV.

I’m staying down in Manhattan Beach this week since someone needs to be there to feed him his bottle at 8pm.  He’s up to three bottle feedings a day, one with Tiff, one with me, and one in the middle-of-the-night with one of the nurses.  We continue to be cautiously optimistic and pray for a clean bill-of-health.

So precious. Thanks for sharing, I feel like I am getting to know the little guy even though we haven’t met yet!
Hang in there Makoa, you are doing great!

I am thinking of your family and baby Makoa everyday! Susie gave me Makoa’s website and it is warming to see his pictures. When I look at the pictures of him being held by you, I can see the peace that Makoa feels knowing his father is there, holding him, comforting him, reassuring him, and protecting him! He is a beautiful baby boy and he is very blessed to have you and Tiffany as his parents. He is gaining weight, taking more at each feeding, and being very alert. That is all very positive no matter what! He needs weight to be stronger, he needs to take a bottle/breast to get stronger, and he needs to open those eyes to see you and tell you he is a fighter and is “fearless”! God Bless Makoa and his wonderful family!

    Sincerely,
    Amanda Bartlett

As your grandmother, I never thought I would hear myself saying these words to you but….”Suck em up, brah…Hawaiian style!” We love you.

The gift of hope is the best gift of faith. Believe in all you hope for and believe in miracles. God is with you and he is holding your family in his hands. Remember the saying that God does not leave you in troubled times, he carries you through it. God is walking with you and is giving you all strength. Stay strong and we thank God for all the blessings he has given you and we pray that he touches all the children in the NICU. So many need your strength, touch a life.
