Makoa had to be placed back on low-levels of oxygen last night. Apparently his heart-rate and saturation levels were dropping so they wanted to put him back on O2 just to make sure everything was okay. The nurses said it’s quite common for them to go on and off oxygen support, so don’t be worried.
They aren’t sure if the issue is from his lower jaw (which is set back a bit) or possibly and infection. They ran a couple tests to make sure he doesn’t have any type of infection or that he is anemic. They assured us that this is also a very common practice. The doctor seems to think that when he gets into certain positions, his jaw and tongue prevent him from getting adequate airflow. More tests are needed down the road to exactly determine the cause, but for now, he’s hanging in there.
He took 9 cc’s out of the bottle this morning and that is a huge improvement. The sooner he learns to eat on his own, the sooner we can bring him home. What a joyous day that will be! Tiffany sent me this pic from the hospital, Grammy made him a little Rasta beanie. I love it.
